Pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist near Mount Airy, MD
Hi! I’m Kathleen Macartney, a Maryland-licensed and ASHA-certified Speech-Language Pathologist (CCC-SLP) providing pediatric speech and language therapy in Mount Airy, Maryland and surrounding areas across Frederick, Carroll, Howard, and Montgomery counties.
My connection to speech therapy is personal. As a child, I received speech therapy for selective mutism, which gave me firsthand understanding of how communication challenges can affect confidence, school participation, and daily life. That experience shaped my commitment to helping children feel heard, supported, and capable of expressing themselves in their own way.
I earned my undergraduate degree from Pennsylvania State University (University Park) and my graduate degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Towson University. I currently work as a school-based SLP at Hanover Hills Elementary School, where I’ve spent over five years supporting elementary students with speech, language, and communication needs. Working in a school setting has given me deep experience aligning therapy with classroom expectations, supporting IEP goals, and helping skills carry over into real academic and social situations.
My approach to therapy is collaborative, practical, and child-centered. I focus on building strong relationships with each child, creating engaging sessions, and partnering with families so progress continues beyond our sessions. I truly love working with kids and take pride in creating a warm environment where children feel comfortable, motivated, and confident.
I live in Mount Airy, MD with my husband, two dogs and two cats, and I enjoy being part of the local community I serve.
